Seventy-five years ago today Rocco’s best friend was killed in action during the final days of the Battle of the Bulge.
On Friday, October 18, 2019 the corner of 31st Avenue and 41st Street in Astoria was officially renamed “Staff Sergeant Rocco Moretto Way”, in a tribute honoring Rocco’s service to our nation as well as to the community of Astoria. World War II veteran Rocco Moretto celebrates his 90th birthday today. The birthday is the second milestone this month for the New York veteran. Two weeks ago Rocco was honored at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post that bears his name in remembrance of the 70th Anniversary of D-Day.
On Thursday June 12, 2014, Rocco attended the Army Birthday Gala in New York City during Army Week. The Army celebrates it’s 239th Birthday today. To celebrate, Rocco helped to cut the Birthday cake with U.S. Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Ray Odierno and Pfc. Louis Angelici.
